This is a door for an extra wide alcove, between a bedroom and shower area. The opening was approximately 52” x 7’.

The custom door was built from T&G pine, glued together and held in place with ratchet straps and 2×4’s while it set. It was finished and squared with pine on the perimeter and center for strength and rigidity, both sides. A groove was cut in the bottom of the door to accommodate the bottom guide.

A ¾” poplar ledger board was installed on top to mate with the ¾” baseboard; it was screwed into the studs at 16” centers. Poplar was chosen as an adequate hardwood to accept the lag bolts of the railing assembly securely. The railing assembly was then fastened to the ledger board. It was finish trimmed on the sides with poplar to complete the opening. A guide was used on the floor to keep the door in place, close to the baseboard. The install was fabricated to fit to the baseboard because the floor is heated and could not be drilled into. Recessed finger door openers were used in the final location.
